personalアカウントを開設するには[[paypalのwebサイト:https://www.paypal.com]]で
「Sign up for your FREE PayPal account」をクリックするところから始まる。
「personal account in JAPAN」を選択して次のページに進むと
名前や住所やその他の個人情報を色々登録させられるページがあるので
指示に従って全て記入しよう。

Primary currencyは「どの通貨を基本通貨とするか」という設問だけど
日本人だからYenで、とすると入金時に為替手数料がかかるし
米国で支払うからとUS$とするとクレジットカードの引き落とし時に為替手数料がかかる。
結局はほとんどコストには差がないと思われるので
どっちでも良いのではないだろうか？
ここで設定した基本通貨以外の通貨で支払いをしようとすると
paypal口座内で自動的に両替されるので、何を選んでも良い。
僕はUS$にした。

後半のYes/Noの選択肢が三つ並んだところは
一つ目が「premium account」を開設するかどうか。
残りの二つは規約に同意するかどうかとかの問題なので
一つ目はNo、二つ目と三つ目はYesにしておけば問題ない。
もちろんPremium accountが欲しい人は、一つ目はYesと答えておく。
最後に、アルファベットの画像を読まされるが、
これはコンピューターで偽口座を開設するのを防止するためだ。
プログラム化されたコンピューターは普通の文字は判別できるが
このように画像の中に文字が埋め込まれているものは読めないので
コンピューターでの口座開設を除外できるのだ。

クレジットカードの登録画面が出てきたら
ここでカードを登録してしまおう。どうせ後でやることになるので。
カードの登録を終えると、もう開設完了。カンタンだった。

ついでにメールアドレスの承認をしておく。
paypalから届いたメールの中にあるURLをクリックして開いてみよう。
これで、登録したメールアドレスが実際に使われているアドレスだということの証明をしたことになる。

おまけで、口座をVerifyしてしまうと良い。
My accountの画面内に口座の状態が
Status - Japanese Unverifiedとなっているところがあるが
ここをクリックして4桁の承認番号を発行して貰う。
クレジットカードが実際に使われているかどうかのチェックを行っているらしいが
その際、2ドルほどがクレジットカードから引き落としされる。
このコストは後日返金されるのでご心配なく。
クレジットカードの明細書に4桁の番号が書かれているので
それを見てからここで入力すると、カードも承認されたことになる。

これで、paypal口座の準備は完了。
いつでもインターネットから米国のpaypal口座に送金できる。
