CD/DVDドライブ仮想化ソフト「DAEMON Tools」

このDAEMON Toolsは、HDD内に保存したCD/DVD-ROMのイメージファイルを利用して仮想CD/DVD-ROMドライブを作成するソフト。僕の使っている某辞書ソフトがHDDインストール型ではなくてCDから起動するタイプなので辞書を引くたびにCDをドライブに挿入するのが面倒なので使い始めたのがこのソフトで、CDのイメージファイルをそのままHDD内に取り込んでおけば、まるでCD-ROMドライブにそのCDが入っているかのように扱える。

ドライブレターは自由に変更することができ、たとえば僕の場合はCドライブがメインHDD、DドライブとEドライブがCDドライブ、F/G/HはオマケのHDD、そしてZドライブを仮想ドライブとして例の辞書ソフト挿入のために使っている。最大で仮想ドライブは4つまで増やすことが出来る。

一度イメージ化したCDのデータはいつでも仮想ドライブにマウントできるので、たとえば使っているプリンター・スキャナ・デジカメ・グラフィックボード等々のドライバをまとめて一枚のCDイメージにしておけばOSの再インストールなどでも非常に便利にドライバを入れ直すことも出来る。また軽量のモバイルノートではCD-ROMドライブが内蔵されていないこともあるけれど、CDイメージファイルをHDDに取り込んでおけばまるでCDドライブがあるかのようにそのモバイルノートを扱うことが出来る。
