ThinkPad X40のメモリを増設したよ。

IBM（Lenovo）の公式サイトをみると、なんとまぁ親切なことに動画付でメモリ増設の方法が解説されている。ノートパソコンはできるだけ本体を開けてほしくないというのがメーカー側の思惑のはずなのに、さすがヘビーユーザーを相手に商売してきた会社だけのことはある。某S●NYなんかはユーザーが本体を開けた時点でメーカー保障の対象外というほど心が狭いというのに、IBMの寛容さには頭が下がる。

で、メモリ増設はおそらくパソコン改造(?)の中でももっとも簡単なものなので10分もかからず（3分もかからず!?）終了した。起動してシステム構成を見てみると、しっかり表示される「760MB RAM」の文字（8MBはグラフィックチップに流用）。

やはり256MBから768MBへの増設は効果覿面。ThinkPad X40は一躍、サクサクパソコンに進化したのであった。個人的にはメモリ256MB→512MBの壁を破る時が一番パソコン性能アップを体感できるのではないかと思う。ノートパソコンはハードディスクの回転数が4200回転などにとどまるため、7200回転が標準的になっているデスクトップに比べて同じ構成なら動作速度ではどうやっても勝てない。しかしメモリ増設だけである程度の体感速度の改善は図れる。ヤフオクやパーツショップを使えば1万円以下でできるメモリ増設、ノートパソコンの遅さに困っている方にお勧めだ。
