Vista関連ドメイン取得合戦!?

実際のドメイン取得は一度でもやってみたことがある人ならわかると思うが非常に簡単にできる。たとえば僕が8個ほど保有しているドメイン（このggtt.netもそうだが）は全てhttp://www.value-domain.com/で取得したものだが、ここだと最も安い".com"や".net"などのドメインだと年間使用量が990円（為替変動に連動して時々改訂されるようだ）ですむ。つまり990円払えば自分のドメインを保有できるということで、これを一つ持っていれば自由に使うことが出来る。

たとえばsample.comというドメインを持っていたとするとwww.sample.comやmysite.sample.comなど、xxx.sample.comのxxxの部分を色々変更したURLを全て独占使用することが出来る（もちろん他人に譲渡することも貸与することも出来る）。またメールアドレスだって、mail@sample.comやadmin@sample.comなど、同じようにxxx@sample.comのxxxの部分を自由に変更したメールアドレスを全て独占使用することが出来る。URLを独占使用できるということはウェブサイトの運営はもちろん、FTPサーバーやプロキシサーバーを立てることも出来るし、メールアドレスを独占できるということは無限のメールアドレスを保有できるほか、サーバーを立てれば自前のメーリングリストを何個も作ることだって出来る。

「Vista」という単語がビジネスを生みうる魔法の単語となってしまった今、みんながこの関連ドメインに殺到するのも無理はない。人気のドメインは今からではもう取得はできないと思われるが、まだまだドメイン関連でビジネスチャンスは残っていると思われる。

ただMicrosoftの恐ろしいところは何でもすぐに訴訟に持ち込んでしまうというところ。カナダのパソコンサイバー少年マイク・ロー君（Mike Row君）が自作ソフトウェアを公開していた趣味のウェブサイト「www.mikerowsoft.com」がmicrosoft.comの商標を犯すものだとして、わずか10歳のサイバー少年に対して巨額の賠償を求めて訴訟を起こしてしまったのは記憶に新しいところだ。際どいドメインを取得してマイクロソフトに言いがかりをつけられたりしないよう、火遊びはほどほどに。
