まず形状。密閉型イヤホンというのは初めて使ったのだが、画像を見ていただければわかるように形はまるで耳栓。イヤーピースがかなり耳の奥まで入る構造になっている。本体自体はかなりコンパクトで、前述のヘルメットと干渉するおそれはなさそうだ。カラーリングもなかなかクールでいかにもSONYのデザインだ。

コード長は120cmで、SONYのイヤホンのコード長は「リモコンで中継するタイプ」は50cm、「単独で使用するタイプ」は120cmに統一されている。120cmというのはやや長い気がする（本体をポケットに入れるにせよ鞄に入れるにせよ弛んで邪魔になる）。まぁ短すぎるよりはいいんだけれど。コードは今はやりの布巻きタイプではなくオーソドックスなビニル巻きタイプ。コードがからまないようにホルダーが付属しているが、このホルダーはイヤホン使用中は結構邪魔なので外しておいて使用しないこともできる。

肝心の音は、ネットでの評判にもあったが「高音から低音までしっかりカバーする」ものの「音が出ているだけで厚みがあるわけではない（重厚さはない）」という説明が当てはまるように思う。PHILIPSのイヤホンを使ったときと比べると音質自体は期待よりはしょぼい感も否めない…。でもデフォルトでついているイヤホンよりは満足できることは保証できます。携帯オーディオでもそれなりの音を楽しみたい人は買ったときのイヤホンをいつまでも使わずに色々試してみるといい。3000円くらいのイヤホンでも購入時についているもの（大体1200円くらいのもの）とはかなり音が違うことを実感できる。

ところがすごいのは密閉型イヤホンの効果。イヤホンをはめた途端に外界の音はほとんど聞こえない。これは耳栓をしているのと同じ状態なのだから当たり前といえば当たり前なのだが。自転車に乗っていて使っていたときに、すぐ後ろにクルマが迫っていたことに全く気づかなかったことで驚いた。

正直言って密閉型イヤホンというのは屋外で使うのは危険かもしれない。周りの音が聞こえないので近づいてくるクルマの音に気づかず交通事故を起こしては洒落にならない。だけどこの音の密閉効果は電車通勤・通学をする人にはよいんじゃないかな。電車内でのイヤホンからの音漏れというのは周りからすると非常に迷惑だし、自分も電車のガーッという走行音で邪魔されて音楽を楽しめない。だからこういった密閉型イヤホンは電車で携帯オーディオを使うのに向いているかもしれないと思うのだ。通勤通学にオススメということ。

全体の感想としては、買ってみてよかったんじゃないかと。コードが絡まるのは仕方ないとして、デザイン的にも音質的にもなかなか満足できるレベルの一品だと思うわけです。
