日本でpaypalは普及しないのか？

paypalの詳しい使い方はそれを開設した専門のサイトに譲るとして…。僕がpaypalの良いと思うところはpaypal内の資金が無料で即時送金できること、paypalアカウントを持たない人にもメールで入金を求めたり出来ること、銀行振込やクレジットカードなど多様な入出金チャネルに対応していること等々、挙げていけばいくらでも出てくるのだけれどそういう点が素晴らしい。

日本国内でも似たコンセプトを持っているところがあって、それがイーバンク銀行。イーバンク銀行は発足当初からpaypalを意識している様子が感じられてコンセプトがよく似ている。同行内の無料即時送金、めるマネによってイーバンク銀行に口座を持たない人にも送金できる機能などはまさにpaypalのシステムそのものだ。ネットオークション世界最大手のイーベイにおける決済機構として発達したpaypalと、日本最大のYahoo!オークションの決済銀行として成長したイーバンク銀行と、普及への家庭もなんとなく似ているじゃぁないか。

ただ日米の決済文化的な土壌の差がpaypalとイーバンク銀行の差を別けたのかもしれない。もともと小切手の授受で現金決済をしていた米国ではpaypalのメールで送金するシステムは受け入れられやすかったのに対して、現金決済と言えば銀行振込だった日本ではめるマネはいっこうに普及する気配がない。フィッシング詐欺への警戒感からか一般市民に受け入れられる日は遠そうだ。

イーバンク銀行はめるマネでは日本で送金の標準になれなかったけれど、2006年1月からは全銀システムへの接続も始まっていよいよYahoo!オークションでの標準取引口座となる日は近いのかもしれない。新生銀行がもし仮に将来、今の他行宛他行振込無料サービスを終了させたら一気にイーバンク銀行が普及するというようなシチュエーションも考えられる。
