新バージョンになってどのような機能が新しくなったかと言うことは公式サイトを見ていただくとして、「顔検出」や「肌色補正」など人物写真関連の自動補正機能がかなり強化されているので、家庭用写真で「オトーサンが撮った愛娘の写真をより一層美人に見せたい」というような場面での画像編集に威力を発揮するか!?

で、インターフェイスは基本的にAdobeスタイルをしっかり踏襲しているのでこれまでのAdobe製品を使ったことがある人はカンタンに移行できる。画面のカラーリングはバージョン3.0と同様のこの頃はやりの「WindowsXP的」なウィンドウスタイルが適用される（言葉ではいかんとも説明しがたいので公式サイトの写真を見るべし）。

動作はそれなりのスペックを要求され、推奨動作環境はPentiumIII以上となっているが3桁MHz世代のパソコンではかなり荷が重い。メモリも256MBで動作しないことはないだろうけれど、これからのデジカメ高画素高画質の時代で画像レタッチをしようと思うならばメモリは512MBぐらいが標準と考えていたほうが良さそう。

ちなみに通常版とアップグレード・乗換版では価格が4,000円程度違っているが、中身は同じと考えて良い。乗換でなくても乗換版を使うことが出来て、もし「どの画像編集ソフトから乗り換えたことになるんだ？」と問われれば（問われることはまずないが）、Windows Picture Manager（Microsoft Officeについているオマケ的ソフト）とでも答えておけばよいだろうね。
