ブロードバンドユーザの3分の2がSkypeを使う場所

これは今月上旬に開催されたSkype公認イベント「Skype Day In Japan」の中で台湾のPChome Online会長であるホンチー・ジェン氏による講演で話されたもの。台湾ではSkypeのダウンロード数が750万に、登録ユーザー数は250万に達している。そして、この数字が上に挙げた台湾の全人口の1割、ブロードバンドユーザの2/3の人にあたるのだ。

中国や東南アジアとの激しい価格競争に曝された台湾企業がコスト削減を進める中で、通信費の削減を目指して導入されたのがSkype。これが台湾での爆発的なSkypeの普及につながったのだという。

そして今、中国や東南アジアとの価格競争に曝されているのが我々日本の企業たち。果たして日本の財界でSkypeが通信手段として普及するのかどうかはわからない。だけどIP電話が1000万人に利用されているということは電話代を安くしたいという願いが日本人の中にも確かに存在しているということの証拠なのではないかと思う。
