それにしてもこのサービス開始を携帯通信各社は戦々恐々として見守っていることだろう。ウィルコムがウィルコム間での通話・メールを完全定額にして好評を得たあのサービスとは、規模もユーザー数も応用の幅も全然違ってくる。携帯通信会社の壁を越えて、携帯電話と固定電話とパソコンの壁も越えて、誰もが誰もと定額あるいは完全無料で話せる時代が来るかもしれないということを示唆してもいる。

だけど、これはいずれは実現することが運命づけられているものなんじゃないかと思う。10年前にインターネットが月額定額で使い放題というサービスを提供しているプロバイダはなかった。それが今ではADSLにせよ光にせよ月額定額なのが当たり前になっている。そういう革命が携帯電話の世界で起こってもおかしくない。携帯電話料金もプロバイダに月額利用料を支払うだけで使い放題という未来が確実に待っているんじゃないかと僕は思っている。

となると、現在のネットISPが提供しているような「開通から2ヶ月間は無料」「乗り換えキャンペーン」のようなものもどんどんと登場してくるかもしれない。ドコモとauと、それに今はまだその姿を見せていない未来の真興携帯電話ベンダーが激しいキャンペーンを展開して顧客を奪い合うかもしれない。OCNやぷららなどのNTT系列以外のISPでもフレッツでネットに接続できることを考えれば、NTT系列の某社がドコモを切り捨ててNTT回線をドコモ以外の会社に切り売りし始めることもありえる。実際に日本通信がPHSの分野ではウィルコム回線の一部を買い取って成功している例もあるしね。

いずれにせよ、携帯電話の業界地図がもしかしたら新しい激動の時代を迎えているんじゃないか、そういうわくわくする予感のするニュースだ。
