Appleの新製品は「iPod Hi-Fi」でした。

iPodが普通の「音楽を楽しむツール」から「音の良い音楽を楽しむツール」へと進化した瞬間、と言うとやや大袈裟かもしれないが、これまではあまり考慮されていなかった音質へのこだわりをちょっとは見せ始めたと言うことだろうか。

それはともかく、いくらスピーカーユニットに良いものを使ったところでiPodの音声出力そのものがイマイチなのは有名な話。スピーカーユニットはiPodから出力された音声信号をiPodのユニバーサルドックを介して受け取るだけなのでiPod本体の音質のイマイチさはどうにも解決されない。結局、本当に音質が良いかどうかというよりは音質にこだわっているというポーズを取っているだけのような気がしなくもないが…

もしAppleが音質へのこだわりを本格的に見せ始めているのだとしたら、Appleのすべきことは大がかりなスピーカーユニットを販売することではなくてiPodの音声出力の改善、付属のイヤホンをもうちょっとマシにすること、そしてなによりiTunesのmp3エンコーダをなんとかしなければならないなど、することはたくさんあるはずなのだ。
