KDDIが東京電力の光ファイバー網を買い取るらしい。

KDDIはauでドコモと争うだけでなく、プロバイダでOCNやぷららなどNTT系と争い、そして回線提供事業者としてとことんNTTとやり合うためには光ファイバー網を自前で持つことが必要だと考えたのだろう。東京電力を初めとする電力会社は立派な光ファイバー網を持っていて、しかもそのかなりの部分が実際には稼働することなく眠っている（いわゆるダークファイバー）らしい。

というわけでKDDIは次世代でも通信業界の強者として生き残ってゆくためにこの光ファイバー網を買い取ることになったわけだが、これでKDDIとTEPCO（テプコ）はひとつのプロバイダとして合体しブランドを一新するらしい。両社ともプロバイダとしてもかなりの数の会員を持っていたが、新しく有力なプロバイダ事業者が現れることになる。ソフトバンクのVodafoneとの連携も合わせて、来年か再来年頃には利用者の獲得を目指してかなり激しいサービス展開合戦が起こるんじゃないかと期待できる。
