キーボードはタッチ感が商品の命なので実物を全く見ないままに通販で購入するのは勇気が要る。というわけで、桂大橋の電器店コジマまで実物をタッチしに行ってきた（実際は別の用事で右京区まで行ったときに雨が降ったので雨宿りのために立ち寄っただけだが）。幸い、そこで売られているキーボードはタッチ用の実物が展示されており自分で感触を確かめられるようになっていた。ただしLogicool・Logitech商品はマウスも含めて一切取り扱いがなかったほか、Microsoft製品も廉価モデルしか店頭では扱っていなかった。HappyHackingKeyboardのような「あこがれキーボード」も展示品がなくて残念。

そこでSANWA SUPPLYのパンタグラフキーボードのSlim Keyboardシリーズに触れて、これまで実は安物買いの銭失いと小馬鹿にしていたSANWA SUPPLYのキーボードが予想以上にしっかりしたキータッチを実現しているので感心したのだ。一方、EL○C○Mのキーボードは廉価商品に相応しいなんとも貧相でフニャでヘタリなキータッチで安物感がプンプン立ちこめていたのを確認し、SANWA SUPPLYとE○E○OMとの違いを再確認した。

ちなみにパソコン用品に関しては、売上げランキング上位を占める「ベストセラー製品」は決して「性能の良い製品」ではない。キーボードやマウスでは実際に売れるのは使った感触の善し悪しではなくデザインや価格でほとんどの購買が決まってしまい、実際の使用感なんてものは使い始めて初めて分かるもの。パソコンをネットとメールができれば十分と考えているライトユーザーや職場で使うだけの法人ユーザーにとっては「安い商品」が「良い商品」なのだ。

1万円以上するマウスは使っていたが、キーボードに関しては今のところちょっとそこまで攻め切れていない自分に半ば幻滅しながらも、2,000円台のキーボードをまた買ってしまった。今のところはまぁ価格よりは良い商品でコストパフォーマンスは良いものだと思っているが…。
