PDFとFlashが今年中に統合されるってマジっすか！

両方ともWeb上でHTMLでは実現できない形の情報を提供するものではあるけれど、その性格はかなり違っているように印象を受ける。PDFは静的でレイアウトを維持したままの文章をOSやビューアの違いを超えて提供するために適していて、FlashはHTMLに埋め込んだファイルが動画や音声などリッチコンテンツ的なものを提供するためのものというとらえ方が一般的かな？

それが統合されるとなると、もちろん両社の良いところを取るということなんだろうけれど双方の規格に発展するために必要なのかと言われれば微妙な気もする。僕個人の印象としては、両社の規格を統合して美味しい思いをするのはPDF側だけなんじゃないかしら。Flashが持つダイナミック（動的）な情報提供ができるようになることでPDFの文書規格としての応用の幅は広がる。一方で、FlashはPDFでできることは大抵Flash単体でもできるんじゃないかと思うんだが。ビジネス文書のように書式やレイアウトを重んじるものであってもFlashpaperがその能力をすでに証明済みだ。

結局、買収した側（PDF）にとってうまみが大きいが買収された側（Flash）にはもともとあまり魅力がなかった統合なのかもしれない。しいて挙げるとすれば、FlashがAdobe readerの大きなシェアを手に入れられることくらいだろうか…。

ところで、PDFとFlashが統合されたとしたら、それを出力していたソフトウェア（AcrobatとソフトウェアとしてのFlash）の関係はどうなるんだろうね。興味深いところだ。
