これはGoogle Sitemapsのリニューアルに伴って搭載された新機能。今回のリニューアルでは従来のSitemapでわかりにくかった箇所もいくつか改訂されていてユーザビリティが向上した。Google八分通知機能とも言えるものはこのリニューアルで搭載された新機能のうちの一つにあたる。

また従来のSitemapではサイトのフォルダにFTPツールなどでファイルをおける権限を持っていなければSitemapの統計機能を利用できなかった。今回から、METAタグに指定のキーフレーズを挿入しておけばSitemapが利用できるようになったので、ポータルサイトが運営するレンタルブログのような場所でFTPツールが使えなくてもテンプレートの捜査さえできればSitemapは利用できる。もっとも、フォルダに指定のファイルをアップロードするのに比べて手間も掛かりサイトの訪問者にもMETAタグが見られてしまうので、従来の方法が使えるならそのほうが簡便でベターだが。

Googleのクロールロボットがうまくサイトのインデックスを取れなかったときもその旨がサイトの概要のページに表示されるので、これで意味不明のままGoogleに掲載されていないという謎なことには（全くないとは言えないが）陥りにくくなったと思われる。もっとも、今回の改訂が無くてもGoogle Sitemapが今まで使えていた人にとっては今回の改訂は何もメリットが無いのだが。僕もリニューアルしたと聞いて嬉々としてログインしてみたが、Sitemapが使えなかった人が使えるようになるためのリニューアルだったのであまり直接の恩恵を受けることはできなかった…。

Googleに次に改訂して欲しいのは、Adsenseのオンサイトサインアップのチャネル別設定かなぁ。
