GbuyはGoogle baseが世に姿を現した頃からその存在をささやかれていたオンライン決済システムで、Paypalのようにユーザーのアカウント間でキャッシュのやり取りができる。GoogleはPaypalとは全く異なるものだと主張しているが、インターネット上の電子決済、オンラインショッピングのトランザクションに利用できるという機能は明らかにPaypalの存在とダブるものだ。

手数料は当初は無料で、一定期間後に1.5～2.0％の課金が開始されるらしいが、この手数料の面でもPaypalより魅力的な数値を出している。もっとも、日本の銀行振込はネットバンキングの普及に加えて、ジャパンネット銀行、イーバンク銀行、そして新生銀行などの新興勢力の影響でかなり手数料が安く抑えられているので、1.5％も取られたら割高感があるのは否めない。
