AMDのATI買収。

これはIntelの独走を許すまじとするAMDがより積極的に攻勢を仕掛けやすくするため、ATIチップをAMD用マザーボードなどに積極的に取り入れさせるという点ではかなり大きなメリットになる。この合併が完了すれば、AMD用マザーボードでオンボードながら高機能なグラフィック機能を持つ製品、なんかもたくさん出てきそう。また、AMDが言うにはこの買収のメリットが最大に活かされるのはモバイル用製品分野だそうで、ノート用にAMDプロセッサとATIグラフィックを積んだ機種が相次ぎ登場するのか？

Intelはノート分野では独自グラフィックチップの普及率がかなり高いシェアに達しているほか、nVIDIAもグラフィックチップではずいぶんと大きなシェアを持っている。Intelが独自グラフィックにどこまで拘るかによっても変わってくるが、今後はnVIDIAの存在感は減り、Intelオリジナル対AMD＋ATIという対決構図ができあがってくるのではないかな。nVIDIAファンにとっては厳しい状況であるほか、ATIグラフィックボードについても競争相手の存在感低下は価格の下げ止まりに繋がるから、喜んでばかりもいられない。

ただ、Adobeとmacromediaが合併後もそれなりに独自性を持って存在している（以前は、macromediaの名は消えてAdobe flashなんてものになってしまうのではないかという危惧も少なからずあった）ことを考えると、AMDによるATI買収もそれほど露骨な影響は示さないかもしれない。
