ファイナルファンタジーIIIがNintendo DSで発売。

僕は小学校の低学年でドラクエIIIの大ブレイク、高学年の頃になるとスーパーファミコンが販売された世代。個人的にはあの頃がテレビゲームの一つの黄金時代だったと思うのだけど、FFIIIは僕が熱中したタイトルの一つだ。ほとんどゲームソフトを買って貰えなかった僕が、友人に頼み込んでなんとかあの白いカートリッジのソフトを貸してもらったのだ。

「そのグルガン族の男は静かに語った…」で始まるFFIIIはファイナルファンタジーシリーズでは僕が初めてプレイした作品。ジョブチェンジシステムも斬新だったけれど、ドラクエのラーミアや気球とは比べものにならない速度で失踪する飛空挺にも大興奮したものだ。初めて浮遊大陸から外界に飛び出して、画面イッパイに広がる大海原を目にした日の夜、布団の中でドキドキしすぎて眠れなかったのを思い出す。

すでにNintendo DSを持っている人ならこのゲームソフトを買うだけでプレイできるけれど、そもそもNintendo DS自体を持っていない僕がこのゲームをやろうとすると、けっこうな出費になってしまうなあ。それに、ゲームを購入するための資金どうこう以前に、ゲームをする時間がそもそもないじゃないか？

発売を知ったときは、これは諦めるしかないと思っていたけれど、テレビで流れるCMにも刺激されて今はかなり物欲がウズウズうずいている感じ。果たして僕は、我慢できるのか？買ってしまうのか？
