Edyなど電子マネーの読み取り端末が共通化へ

Suica、iD、QUICPay、Edyという電子マネー規格をそれぞれ別のものとして認識できている人はいったいどれくらい居るのだろうか。iDとEdyが別の規格であること、SuicaがJR以外でも使える電子マネーであること、それをいったいどれだけの人が認識しているのだろうか。電子マネーが一部のサイバーオタクだけでなく、広く一般市民に受け入れて貰えるためには、こういう規格がわかりにくいままで乱立しているのはとんでもないことだった。

将来的には完全に互換性を実現して互いにどこの端末でどの電子マネー規格でも使用できるようなサービスにならないと、利用者は付いてこないんじゃないかと僕は思っている。だって、実際に、利用者の立場から見てみるといまの規格はわかりにくすぎるもん。クレジットカードが1枚と、おサイフケータイ機能付きの携帯電話が1台あれば、どの電子マネーでも利用できる、それくらいのわかりやすさがないと普及させようなんてことはドダイ無理。

さてさて、僕がもう一つわかりにくいなあと思ったのはドコモのDCMXの存在。これが、iDとEdyとおサイフケータイと、それぞれとどのような関係にあるのか、これまたユーザーの立場から見ると非常にわかりにくい。実際は、おサイフケータイという端末でEdyかiDという決済サービス（前者はビットワレット提供、後者は三井住友カード提供）を利用して決済を行い、DCMXというのはiD経由での決済時に用いるNTTドコモ提供のクレジットカードサービスの名称である。これが、初めておサイフケータイを使おうと言う人にわかるかと言えば、わからないんじゃないかと思う。

要するに、僕が言いたいのは現時点での電子マネー規格はあまりに複雑で、とても一般人に普及させることができるとは思えないということだ。誰でも使えるおサイフケータイを目指すなら、規格の乱立を反省したこの機会にどんどんと互換化を進めてその境目を撤廃していって欲しい。これは、現金主義の根強い日本でどこまで普及できるか、というようなこと以前の問題だ。
