skypeの10人通話Intel縛りは独占禁止法違反だろ！！

僕のメインPCになっているデスクトップ機は、以前どこかにも書いたようにAMD Athlon 64 X2を搭載しているもので、これまでの経歴もAthlon XP、Turion 64などAMDパソコンを使ってきたことが多い。一瞬だけCore 2 Duo E6600に浮気したけれど、なんとなく好きになれなくて結局Athlon 64 X2に落ち着いている。

このAthlon 64 X2は普段使う分には全く支障を感じることはないのだけれど、唯一このskypeの会議通話機能に関してはAMDではどうにもならないと感じさせられる。というのも、skype社がIntelと独占契約を結んでいるためにIntel CPUでは可能な会議での10人同時通話がAMD CPUではどうやってもできないからなのだ。

skypeのインタビューによるとこれは10人通話機能に必要なマシンパワーを提供しているのが今のところIntelのデュアルコアCPUしかないからだ、ということらしい。だけど、Core 2 DuoならともかくPentium Dと比べたときにAthlon 64 X2が性能面で一方的に負けているとはとても思えないんですけど。

AMDもこのskypeとIntelの癒着に関しては独占禁止法違反の疑いを抱いて、質問状を送ったり告訴の準備を始めたりいろいろやっているけれど、Intel自信もたぶんこの独占契約が極めて黒に近いグレーであることはわかっているだろう（わかっていないとしたら本当の馬鹿だけど、大量の弁護士団を抱えたIntelがそんなポカはすまい）。わかっていてやっているのだからタチが悪い。結局、ルールを破っていてもなんだかんだでやったものがちになってしまっているのが現状なのか。

AMDのこれからの頑張りに期待するのはもちろんだけど、AMDユーザももっとこの現状を認識して、機会があれば声を挙げていった方が、AMDユーザの将来にとっても良いんじゃないかと、僕は思う。だからこうやってブログに書いたりしているわけだが、それにしても、早くこの現状をなんとかして欲しいものだ。毎週、会議通話機能を使うたびにこの「AMDユーザの憂鬱」に襲われているのである。
