iTunes7で音割れやノイズのためまともに音楽が再生できないとき

※同じmp3ファイルをWindows media player等で再生したときにも音割れが起こるならば、それは単にmp3ファイルへのエンコードの時点での問題なのでここでの対処法は意味がない。ここで論じているのは、あくまで他のデコーダやプレーヤーでは正しく再生できるものがiTunesでは音割れするという事例に限る。

音楽をバックグラウンドで再生しながらブラウザなど他のアプリケーションを操作しているときに起こるような気がするこの音割れのような現象。上記のリンク先のApple Support Discussionsでも話題になっている。ブモモモ…ズビビビ…ブルルル…なんとも表現しがたい音だが、体験したことがある人にはわかるはず。いちどこの現象が起こってしまうとiTunesの音楽の再生を止めるまでなかなか納まってくれないこともあり、そのくせにいちど音楽を停止して再度再生すると何事もなかったかのように音楽がなりだす。不意に起こるので何が原因なのか、どうやって防ぐのかがわかりにくい。

僕もこの症状に悩まされてきてずいぶんと対処法を探したけれど、ようやくそれが解決できたのでそのときに行ったことをここにメモしておく（自分が将来、OSのクリーンインストールなどを迫られたときのため）。あくまでメモなので、足りない分は各自Googleなどを使って補完してください。以下、対処法。上から順に一つづつ試してみる価値が大きい順に並べてある。下に行くほど、苦肉の策や手間の大きな手段になっている。

1. iTunesおよびQuickTimeを最新のバージョンにアップデートする。
2. http://www1.atwiki.jp/itunes/pages/23.htmlにあるiTunes 7 FAQを参照する。ここに書いてある設定を試す。
3. iTunesの設定で、イコライザをオフにする。あるいはビジュアライザをオフにするか、アートワークを隠すように設定する。
4. QuickTime設定のオーディオタブを選択して、サイズを16bitにする。ただしこの設定の効果がどれほどのものかは不明。レートは48kHzが良いという報告も192kHzが良いという報告もあり、そもそも使用しているサウンドカードによって異なるものだから一概には言えない。
5. サウンドカードのハードウェアアクセラレータの段階を下げる。ネット上の情報では、下から2段階目まで下げたところ音割れが直ったという報告がある。一方で、ハードウェアアクセラレータをMAXまで上げたら直ったという報告もあり、一概にハードウェアアクセラレータが悪いのかどうかはわからない。
6. サウンドカードのドライバを最新版にする。
   ドライバの入手はサウンドカードの製造会社またはオンボードサウンドの場合はマザーボードの製造会社の公式サイトなど。または予算が許せばサウンドカードを変えてみる。Quicktimeはサウンドカードとの相性問題が発生することがしばしばある。
7. DirectXを最新版（具体的にはWindows 98～XPでは「DirectX 9.0c」、Windows Vistaでは「DirectX 10」以上）にする（←見落としがち！）。
   現在インストールされているDirectXのバージョンを調べるには、「ファイル名を指定して実行」で「dxdiag」を実行。DirectXの最新版を入手するのはMicrosoftの公式サイトで。なお、Windows XP SP2をインストールすると最新版に相当するDirectX 9.0cは自動的にインストールされている。
8. 苦肉の策としては、iTunesの音量を最大にしてみる。これでうまく行く場合は、常時音量最大で再生して、実際の音量はスピーカーやヘッドホンやアンプなどの出力側で行う。
9. 以上を試してもダメならiTunes7をアンインストールしてiTunes 6または5するか、Windows media playerなどに乗り換える。
   ただしiTunes 7からiTunes 6以前にダウングレードする場合、7と6ではライブラリファイルに互換性が無いほか、iPod（特に第5世代）の認識が出来なくなったりデータの読み出しが出来なくなったりする可能性がある。

なお、この現象は（本当かどうか知らないが）AMDのプロセッサを搭載したPCで起こることが多いらしい。Intelのプロセッサを搭載したマシンでは起こりにくい。サウンドカードはCreativeのSoundBlasterシリーズを搭載していると起こりやすく、サウンドカードを他社製のものに変えると問題が解決することが多い。なお、CreativeのサウンドカードでiTunesとの相性問題が起こったからとONKYO製SE-90PCIなどに変えると今度はONKYOサウンドカードとAMDのCool'n'Quietとの相性で音切れ（プチッとノイズが入る）が起こることがある（究極的にはIntelプロセッサに交換するか、CnQをオフにする）。オンボードサウンドの場合はチップによるので一概には言えない（VIA系チップセットで起こりやすい？）。また、2chでの報告を見る限り、パソコンのスペックはほとんど関係ない。ブモモモ…ズビビビ…ブルルルを避けようとしてマシンを新調しても同じOS、サウンドカード、ソフトウェアを導入すれば同じ結果に終わる可能性は低くない。総合して、iTunes7をインストールした「AMDプロセッサ+VIAチップセット+Creativeサウンドカード」搭載のマシンがこの問題のハイリスク群と言えそうだ。

参考までに、僕のマシンはASUS A8V-MX / AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ (Socket939) / DDR 2GB / Windows XP pro SP2 / DirectX 9.0c / HGST 7K250 / Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 4 Digital Audio / Sapphire Radeon 9600 128MB 128bit （AGPファンレス）でこの症状に悩まされていた。色々散々試していたが直らずに苦労していたが、サウンドカードをONKYO SE-90PCIに変更すると、すっきりと症状は治まってしまった。苦労させられるわりに、直るときはスンナリ直ってあっけないものだ。
