MovableType4が登場したみたい。

これまでと同じように個人が1サーバにインストールして1ユーザが非商用に使用する場合は無料の個人ライセンスを使うことが出きる。この制度のおかげで、われら草の根ブロガーがMovableTypeの裾野を広げる役目を果たしてきた。そして、今回は有償ライセンスのほうもライセンス形態や価格設定が若干変更になっているとのこと。

新機能としてはMovableType 2.66からMovableType 3.0が登場したときのような目新しさは感じられないが、MovableTypeを単なるブログアプリとしてではなくCNS構成ツールとして使用している場合には期待できる新機能が搭載されている。コメントを投稿するなどだけではなく、ブログの管理者が許可したものに対してはブログのエントリー投稿権を与えるなどの要望も出てくることがある。こういう場合に備えて、ブログの管理者以外にもエントリーの投稿を許可することが可能になったりしている。

ところで僕は、そして僕と同じように多くのMovableTypeを使っている個人ブロガーは、PHP機能を盛り込むなどしてページ投稿時のサーバへの負担軽減策を採っているが、それでもMovableTypeは重い。WordPressへ移行する人の移行動機の大きなものとしてこのMovableTypeのサーバへの負荷、再構築の遅さが上げられることは少なくない。MovableTypeにもダイナミックパブリッシングというPHPを用いたタイプのテンプレートもあるのだが、これは最近は開発が停滞していてプラグインも未対応のものが少なくない。

本当はMovableTypeに望むものはサーバへの負荷軽減、そして全体的な動作の軽快化だ。このままの重さで機能がどんどん負荷されていっても、手を出しにくい一部のプロ向けツールになってしまうだけだろう。もちろん個人ユーザは売上げを生まないしSixApart社としては有料ライセンスユーザを優遇したい気持ちはわからないでもないが、個人ユーザの多さが様々なプラグインやテンプレートの開発を促したという背景もあってMovableTypeの普及のためには個人ユーザを切り捨てることは全く賢明ではない。

個人レベルのユーザも望む、サーバ負荷の軽減などでの改善も是非実現して欲しいところである。
