MovableType 4.0にアップグレードしました。

僕が初めてMovableTypeを使い始めたのは、MovableType 2.661だったように思う。あの頃はまだ日本語版がないものだから、ヒラタ氏が公開していた日本語化パッチを自分で当てて日本語化していたものだ。コメントやトラックバックのスパムフィルターも実装されていなかったので、ロボットスパマーの対策にずいぶんと手を焼いた。そこからMovableType 3.0が出て、3.3が出る頃には一通りの機能も出そろって、ずいぶんと使えるソフトウェアになっていたものだ。

だけど、新しい物好きとしては新しいバージョンのMovableTypeが出れば、アップグレードをしないわけにはいかない。残念ながら新しいバージョンがどれだけ使いやすいかの評価もしないままに、突っ込むようにアップグレードをしてしまった次第である。MovableType 3.35からのインターフェイスの変わりように愕然とし、使いこなせる自信を失いがちである。しかも、MovableType 3.35で動作していたプラグインがMovableType 4.0で動作するのかも未確認である。

いずれにせよ、MovableType 4.0は3.35までと比べて全然違う。正直なところ、ブログを書くためのツールとしてはMovableType 3.35で一通り完成していた。敢えてMovableType 4.0にアップグレードする必要性は全くなかった。テンプレートは共通で使用でき、SQLデータベースは自動でアップグレードしてくれるので、管理人としての手間はほとんど掛かってはいないのだが、環境があまりにも違いすぎて正しく評価できる冷静さを持ち合わせていない。まだアップグレードしていない MovableType 3.xユーザーで4.0へのアップグレードを考えている人は、いま一度冷静になって本当にこのアップグレードが必要なのかを考えてみたほうが良い。もしそれでもアップグレードを希望するのであれば、仕事が落ち着いていて十分な時間を確保できるタイミングでのアップグレードをオススメする。これは、経験者の率直な意見である。
