ASUS N7600GS SILENT AGPを使ってみた

日曜終了のオークションだったこともあって相場より若干高めだったかも知れないが、新品で入手すれば14000円くらいする代物なので、まあまあ満足。だいたい、同じ製品のPCI-express版は新品で12000円程度で入手可能なのだが、AGP版は旧型ソケットなのになぜかそれだけで高価であり、しかも中古市場にも玉数が少ない。もう時代はPCI-expressに移っていて、AGP のグラフィックボードなんてなかなかユーザも絶滅危惧種になりつつあるのかも知れない。

だいたい、僕のメインのデスクトップパソコンは（メインと言っても、最近は職場に置いているThinkpad T42を触っている時間のほうが自宅のメインPCを触っている時間よりよほど長いが）、未だにSocket 939で実働状態である。前衛的自作PCファンを自認し、まだ世間にデュアルコアCPUが珍しかった頃からAthlon 64X2を使用していた身ではあるが、仕事の多忙を理由にSocket AM2にも775 LGAにも引っ越すことが出来ずにいる。メモリ資産はDDRで、グラフィックボードはAGPなのだ。

しかし無駄にグラフィックボードをミドルクラスに格上げしてみたと言っても、普段はほとんど3Dゲームなどしないのでなかなかその違いを実感できない。時々パンヤをすることがあるけれど、パンヤはローエンドのグラフィックボードでも十分にプレイできてしまう。というわけで、せっかく買ったASUS N7600GSであるけれど、これまでのSapphaire Radeon 9600とどこが変わったかまだ体感できずにいる。

なんだか文章が支離滅裂であるけれど、とりあえずAGPソケットにインストールした新しいグラフィックボードのことをどこかに書き留めておきたかったので。いつ、どのPCパーツを買ったのか、このブログは僕のメモ代わりなんです。

T.Gotoです。このグラフィックカードに交換してからケース内の発熱が増えたからか、よくオーバーヒートでWindowsが落ちるようになってしまいました。これまではグラフィックカードはファンレスSapphaire Radeon 9600、ケースファンは1200rpm Φ8cmのものを背面に一つだけでも夏でも電源が落ちることなく安定動作していたのだけれど、どうやらASUS N7600GS SILENTはずいぶんと発熱が多いみたい。

仕方なく、押し入れにあった自作パーツ箱をあさってScytheの8cm鎌フロゥ2000rpmを見つけたのでそれに交換。1200rpmが2000rpmに増えたものだからずいぶんと騒音がウルサくて、VGAをファンレスにしている意味があるのかないのか…。とりあえずWindowsが落ちるということは今のところは無くなって安定動作はしているのですが。PCの動作音がウルサいので起動している時間も短くなり、地球環境にも優しいようです（泣）
