Gmailの容量があっという間に4GBを超えてしまった。

Gmailの公式ブログにもこのような記載があって、Gmailの容量を大きくする方針がすでに実行に移されている。その成果が今回の4GB超えに繋がっているわけだが、Googleがいったい何の目的でこのようなディスク容量の急増を提供しているのか真意は不明だ。

そもそも、前回の3GB超えの時も書いたようにWebメールだけではどう頑張っても4GBものディスク容量を使い切ることは出来ない。添付ファイルでデジカメの写真を送りまくれば多少は消費できるのだろうが、それはGoogleの意図している正しい使い方ではないだろう。Googleはどうせディスク容量を沢山提供してもユーザーはそれを使い切ることが出来ないことをわかっているから、ハッタリでこのようなサービスを展開しているのかも知れない。

ディスク容量を増やしてくれるからにはぜひ提供して欲しいのがGdriveのようなオンラインストレージサービスである。ファイルをWeb上にアップロードしておき、ネットに繋がるところからであればどこからでもこのファイルを扱うことが出来るようなサービスが、４GBのファイル容量で提供されればずいぶんと便利ではないか。どうせなら、現在のサードパーティ製フリーソフトであるGmail driveのように、Explorerに組み込んでドラッグドロップでファイルの処理が出来るような機能を付加したアプリケーションもリリースして欲しい。これは、単なる一ユーザーのワガママだろうか？
