NTTドコモがGoogleと提携を検討

auとGoogleの提携関係が始まったのは、auが最も勢いに乗っていた2006年。ソフトバンクは言うまでもなくYahoo! JAPANの運営会社であり検索ポータルという点では何も困っていない。ドコモだけが有力なネット企業とのつながりを持てずに孤立していた。その迷走は、楽天との提携を進めるなどの点にも現れている（楽天との提携が悪いというわけではないが、GoogleやYahoo!とはブランド力が違いすぎる）。どころがどっこい、今となってはドコモとau、そしてGoogleの関係は、ITmediaでも伝えられているように、微妙な三角関係となっている。

Googleは言うまでもなく世界最大のネット検索サービス提携企業であるが、経営面での実態は世界最大の広告代理店である。このWebページにも今のところ右上の欄にGoogle Adsenseの広告を掲載させていただいているが、様々な広告主がGoogleに依頼した出稿が、世界中の様々なWebページに表示され、これがクリックされるとGoogleとWebサイト運営者に少額の広告料が支払われることになっている。最近では広告を掲載する分野は増えてきており、たとえば有力なところではGmailのメール受信トレイ画面や、奇抜なところでは新聞紙面上の広告という企画もされている。

広告収入は掲載するスペースが増えれば増えるほどありがたいのだから、4000万ユーザーを抱えるドコモの顧客層の携帯端末ディスプレイはGoogleにとっては間違いなく魅力的である。auはGoogleとの提携関係は大切にしたいと思うだろうが、Googleの側はauに拘るつもりは全くないのだろう。そこでこのような話が出てきているのだ。ドコモにしてみれば、これまで常に脅かされてきたauに対してようやく具体的な反撃ができそうで、今はワクワクしていることだろう。

先日はappleがiPhoneをドコモかソフトバンクから販売するという計画をほのめかし、今は双方の会社に提携の条件を競争させているところだという。どれだけの金をappleに出せるかという点で両者を競わせているのだと思われるが、appleはiPhoneが売れた際の一時金だけではなく毎月の通話料収入も要求しているとのことで、この提携話は今のところどちらに転ぶかはわからないが、個人的にはドコモのほうが優性なのではないかという気がしている。

プライドが高く保守的なスタンスに固執していたNTTドコモであるが、急速にオープンな視点に立ったスタイルに方向転換を奨めているように思われる。2008年こそ、新生ドコモの姿を見ることができそうな気がしてきた。
