EX-ICカードを申し込んだ、使ってみた。

EX-ICは実際には申し込んでからカードが手元に届くまで約2週間かかり、その間はJR西日本からは何の連絡も無し。この間にインターネットで口コミ情報などを見てみると、やはりカードが届くのは遅かったという声が多数ある。J-WESTカードやsmart ICOCAはそれよりもずいぶんと早く届いているのだから、よけいにEX-ICが届くのが遅く感じられた。

実際にEX-ICカードが届いて数日しかたたない時期に京都へ行く用事があったものだから、早速エクスプレス予約で座席を取ってEX-ICで新幹線に乗車した。使用は至って簡単で、EX-ICカードをsmart ICOCAと重ねて（新幹線発着駅の近くの別の駅から乗車したため）改札口にかざすと、改札口から座席を記した紙が出てくる。これで改札口を通れるので、券売機もみどりの窓口も通過する必要は無い。時間が節約できるというのが非常に大きなメリットだ。

紙が改札機から出てくるのはイササカ無駄があるようにも感じる。またJR西日本だけで3枚ものカード（J-WESTカード、EX-ICカード、smart ICOCAカード）を携帯していないといけないというのは非常に面倒くさい。エクスプレス予約で取った新幹線に乗車するだけならJ-WESTカードは携帯している必要は無いが、乗車直前に携帯電話から列車変更をすると「e-5489」でのエクスプレス予約扱いとなることがあるようで、この場合にはエクスプレス予約用の発券機にカードを入れる必要があるから、絶対に指定した便にしか乗らない自身がある場合以外はJ-WESTカードも携帯している必要がありそう。なんとなく洗練されていないというか鈍くさいというか、スマートでない点がいくつか感じられる。

またJR西日本圏内が主な活動区間になっている人にとってはEX早割はあってないようなものだ。大阪以東でしか早割の恩恵は生じないので、たとえば3日以上前に予約すると受けられる割引額は僕がもっとも利用する岡山京都間でたった50円。これではあまり早く予約しておこうというインセンティブにはならない。

もうひとつマズいのはJ-WESTカードのポイント制度。1000円で5ポイントたまり1ポイント＝1円相当の価値があるのは一般的なクレジットカードの相場と同じ程度だ。ポイントがICOCAにチャージできて現金との置換性が高い点も評価に値する（ほしくもない商品に交換させられるよりも等価交換に近い）。しかし最大の欠点は3000ポイント単位以上でしか交換ができないうえに有効期限はその年度1年間限りということ。つまり、年間60万円以上カードを使用する場合に限って、利用額60万円単位でポイント利用ができる。これではあまりに「死にポイント」が多い、というか1度もポイント利用できないユーザがほとんどではないかという気がする。年間60万円というと他のカード会社ではプレミアステージの1段目くらい（たとえばJCBのβ相当）の比較的優良な利用者に当たるが、これがようやく1回目のポイント利用の資格を得ることができるのだから、若干敷居が高すぎる。

JR西日本にはなおしてもらいたい点はいくつもあるが、しかしEX-ICカードそのものは非常に便利だ。少しずつではあるが、いろいろ良いサービスがでてきているのは確かである。使おうと思えば西日本在住でもJR東海やJR東日本のカードを申し込むこともできる（あちらはもう少しポイント制度なども優れている）。
