これまでのバッテリーはやや膨らんでおり、カバーをしていてもそのふくらみがわかる。熱を持ったり破裂したりはしていないが、やや不安だ。そもそもバッテリーの持ちが悪くて日常使用に困る。そこでこのたび新しいバッテリーを入れることになったわけだが、バッテリーを新しくしてみて驚いたのはその持ちの良さ。48時間たってもバッテリーは未だ3目盛りフルになっていて減る様子がない。携帯電話のバッテリーがこんなに持つとは知らなかった（といっても現行機種を使い始めたときには知っていたはずなのだが）。

携帯電話を乾電池で充電するデバイスとエネループを常に持ち歩き、電池切れになったら鞄の中で乾電池から充電していた生活を思うと、充電は数日に1度ですむ今の携帯電話がすばらしいものに思えてきたのだった。

今度はノートパソコンのバッテリーも何とかしたい。いま外出用に使用しているThinkpad X40のバッテリーはせいぜい60分程度しか持たない。遠距離の出張でも、学会会場でも、電源なしで十分戦えるノートパソコン用のバッテリーを買うことにしよう。
